July 11, 2010
Posted in Pilates Health Benefits — Written by Julia

Now you have increased awareness of your neck and shoulders and have been thinking about how your neck feels and moves, here’s a very simple effective exercise you can do everyday to stretch your neck and improve your upper body posture. you can do this in sitting or standing.

Relax, focus and breath deeply for a moment . Now gently and slowly draw your chin in towards  your neck, without dropping it down. Feel how the very top of your neck lengthens up towards the base of your skull. Let go slowly and repeat up to 5 times.

To take the stretch further now aim your chin towards the middle of the front of your neck dropping it down until you feel a comfortable stretch in the back of your neck. Again repeat up to 5 times.

Enjoy these stretches and as ever don’t work into any pain. We explore these and more neck  and shoulder movements more in “Pilates in sitting” which will be on the website iPilates for you to buy very soon, it’s a great and effective way to improve your posture, let us know how you get on.
